The Airbnb Renter Fired Several Shots
As reported by the New York Post, two armed suspects allegedly broke into the Fort Lauderdale rental around 6 p.m. on Thursday, Sep. 24.
According to the Fort Lauderdale Police Department, the unidentified renter shot Dareon Pubien in the chest. He was only 18. He then fled the scene on foot, and officers followed the trail of blood he left to find the suspect.
Pubien was then transported to a local hospital, where he underwent surgery and was listed in critical but stable condition.
A Neighbor Called 911
A neighbor heard gunshots across the street and called 911 to alert authorities.
"Maybe at least 10, and then everybody was running," he told reporters.
Sean Thompson, Pubien's alleged 25-year-old accomplice, was arrested in connection with the attempted robbery. Both he and Pubien were charged with attempted felony murder and home invasion with a firearm.
The court ordered Thompson to be held without bond. Pubien's arraignment will take place when he is released from the hospital.
Another incident involving an Airbnb took place several days after the alleged home invasion. After a birthday party at an Airbnb in Macon, Georgia, a "large gathering" of teens had formed at nearby Carolyn Crayton Park.
The teenagers were asked to leave the Airbnb during the party. They then went to nearby Crayton Park when a separate group arrived. An argument broke out between the two factions, leading to gunfire. It has been reported that more than a dozen shots were fired during the incident.
Reports initially stated that only 11 people were shot. The 12th victim limped into a local hospital after 12 p.m. on Sunday and came in for treatment of a non-life-threatening wound.
Officers said that four 18-year-old males, five 17-year-old males, two 18-year-old females, and a 19-year-old male were among those injured.
