I've seen many cute animal photos in my day.
From baby sloths in diapers to kittens learning to swim, there's a countless number of videos and images on the Internet that are sure to make you smile. Still, few adorable animal stories have hit me as hard as the tale of Pumpkin the raccoon.
It all started when Rosie Kemp stumbled upon a baby raccoon who had fallen out of a tree in her town of Nassau, Bahamas. After an exhaustive search for the raccoon's mother, Kemp came up empty-handed and decided to take care of her furry friend.
Kemp, along with her husband and young daughter, named their new pet, Pumpkin.
"She instantly bonded with us and our two rescue dogs and follows me and our two dogs everywhere we go," Young explained to The Dodo. "She now thinks she is a dog...she is able to play and be rough with them and she respects them when they have had enough."
Pumpkin has a big personality, which Kemp chronicles through pictures on the raccoon's Instagram account. "Raising her was (and still is) a full-time job," Young explains. "They are so unbelievably intelligent, very aware, and I would say they are even able to express emotions."
I've become a little obsessed with Pumpkin's account and her photos that show her doing everything from being lazy on the couch to cooking up a storm with her family.
