Canadian actor Scott Hylands has died at the age of 83.

Hylands was best known for portraying Detective Kevin O'Brien in the 1980s police drama Night Heat, appearing in 96 episodes between 1985 and 1989.
Widely regarded as one of Canada's finest performers, Hylands built a television career that spanned more than five decades.

Hylands' son, Luke, announced the heartbreaking news in a post shared on Instagram over the weekend.
"I am heartbroken to share the news that my Dad Scott has passed away Wednesday night," he wrote.
Luke added that he and his family "are still trying to process this horrible loss."
"There simply are not enough words I can say about you right now. You are my forever hero and my best friend."
He concluded the emotional tribute by writing, "Always and forever. I love you. Goodbye Dad. xo"
Luke also described his father as a "Husband, Father, Actor, Director, Writer, Storyteller, Friend, and lover of life."
His post confirmed that Hylands died on Wednesday, July 29.
Scott Hylands Battled Leukemia Before His Death
Hylands revealed he had been diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia in October 2021.
During his treatment, his wife, Veronica, organized a GoFundMe campaign to help cover the cost of his medical care.
According to the fundraiser, Hylands required intensive chemotherapy alongside the drug Venclexta, which was estimated to cost between £60,000 and $80,000.
"They're calling it a miracle drug," Veronica said at the time. "With the combination of chemotherapy and Venclexta, the prognosis improves astronomically."
She previously described her husband as a healthy person and said the diagnosis came as a complete shock.
Throughout his career, Hylands appeared in numerous hit television series, including NYPD Blue, The X-Files, V, Supernatural and Fargo.
His final film role came in the 2019 movie Elsewhere, in which he portrayed Mr. Black.
Hylands made his final on-screen television appearance in Wynonna Earp in 2020, playing Wyatt Earp in one episode.
He is survived by his wife, Veronica, and his children, Luke and Rebecca.
