When speaking with PEOPLE, a source close to Kelly explained her excitement at what's to come.
"After years of an intense daily schedule, she's excited to move at a different pace and have more flexibility to spend time with her kids without the structure of a daily show," the source said. "This change gives her the space to be more present at home while still doing the creative work she loves," the source continues. "Kelly still wants to make music and perform, and she's open to popping up on projects she enjoys, but nothing that requires an ongoing daily grind. For her, this next phase is about balance."
Kelly's decision to step away from the popular talk show comes months after she lost her ex-husband, Brandon Blackstock, to cancer.
"It is with great sadness that we share the news that Brandon Blackstock has passed away," a representative of the family told PEOPLE. "Brandon bravely battled cancer for more than three years. He passed away peacefully and was surrounded by family. We thank you for your thoughts and prayers and ask everyone to respect the family's privacy during this very difficult time."
Kelly Clarkson Announced the End of Her Show on Instagram
As with most entertainment news these days, Kelly Clarkson issued a statement regarding the end of The Kelly Clarkson Show via Instagram.
"I have been extremely fortunate to work with such an outstanding group of people at 'The Kelly Clarkson Show,' both in Los Angeles and New York," Kelly wrote. "There have been so many amazing moments and shows over these seven seasons. I am forever grateful and honored to have worked alongside the greatest band and crew you could hope for, all the talent and inspiring people who have shared their time and lives with us, all the fans who have supported our show, and to NBC for always being such a supportive and incredible partner."
The Kelly Clarkson Show has run for seven seasons. The Daytime Emmy-winning show will now leave a sizeable hole within NBC's programming. It will be interesting to see what the network does to fill that void once season seven wraps up.
