What Are the Details of the Recall?
As USA Today reports, the voluntary recall covers 8-ounce packages of Starfish Seafood Trio. The product is a vacuum-sealed mix of cold-smoked salmon, halibut, and trout. It is distributed by wholesaler Krasnyi Oktyabr.
Inspectors in New York state issued the recall after identifying a potential contamination risk. The notice was posted by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on Oct. 9.
As of now, no illnesses have been reported. According to the Mayo Clinic, listeria is caused by a bacteria found in soil and water. Symptoms consist of diarrhea and upset stomach. They can also include fever and vomiting. While healthy people rarely become ill from an infection, it can be fatal to unborn babies, newborns, and those with weakened immune systems.
