A Wisconsin man lived alongside his decaying girlfriend for over a month before reporting her death to the police. He claims she was killed when he was out of the house for an hour.

According to a criminal complaint obtained by PEOPLE, Serkan Akcilad, 22, reported to the Milwaukee Police Administration Building on February 27 the death of his girlfriend, Silan Tut. He said that he found her body in their apartment on January 24. More than a month prior to making the report.
The Turkish national claimed that he had left the house for an hour to buy cleaning supplies, and found her dead when he returned. The report later confirms that investigators found receipts to prove he went out shopping for supplies.
He claims to have purchased the bleach and insect repellent before she was murdered. Sure.
Akcilad said he found her "covered in blood." The victim had sustained 12 stab wounds to the neck, abdomen, back, and right arm.
Due to being "unfamiliar with the laws of this country," he failed to report the death right away. So he decided to live alongside her rotting corpse instead.
Serkan Akcilad Charged With Reckless Homicide
The suspect was charged with reckless homicide. According to the outlet, a preliminary hearing is set for March 19.
Authorities investigated the apartment and found Tut's body on the floor. Her head was resting on a pillow. A "strong odor" was caused by the decomposition of her body.
Akcilad claimed that someone murdered her as he went shopping, but officers found no evidence of forced entry. Using blood detection chemicals, investigators also found evidence that an "extensive amount of blood had been cleaned up."
The suspect denied that he had done any cleaning to remove evidence from the apartment or his clothes.
Most disturbingly, he said that he had been sleeping beside his deceased girlfriend. He only moved her to where he 'found' her dead a day or two before the cops saw for themselves.
Akcilad told authorities that he had attempted suicide following her death via nail gun.
As if this case could get any more twisted, he posed as her online to reassure her family that she was alive and well. He even sent an old picture of her to her relatives to keep up the illusion.
Not exactly the news I wanted to be peddling on a Saturday morning.
