Todd, who is the senior pastor of Transformation Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma, used a four-figure massage chair to drive home his point on Sunday (November 1).
Megachurch Pastor Goes Viral Over Pricey Prop
During his sermon, Pastor Todd cozied into an Osaki Champ II massage chair. The product retails for around $3,999. The message in the chair? Pastor Mike wanted to illustrate how some Christians believe that they are standing with God. But in reality, they are just reclining in comfort.
"I would tell you that righteousness is right standing with God. But most believers are in what I call right sitting with God," he told the congregation as he sat down (via Dexterto). "You are living for Christ in a La-Z-Boy."
As he got deeper into his sermon, so did his position in the luxury chair. He continued to sell his point that some followers are only down for the cause if it is "comfortable" for them.
"I'm only doing it if it's comfortable," he said. "I'm only doing it if it does not require me to move out of my spot."
Pastor Mike used his reclined position as an example. To prove that even though a person may be comfortable, that position won't fare well when it comes time to fend off enemies.
"How good could I fight from this position?" he asked. "How good could I protect myself? How good could I actually help somebody who was in need right there?Right standing with God means that I have to stop letting my life of righteousness be reclined."
Social Media Reacts to Viral Clip
The clip of Pastor Todd quickly went viral and caused an uproar among users on social media.
"Clown with a circus following him. Blind leading the blind," one user wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.
"The Gospel doesn't need a $4,000 prop. Open the Book and preach Christ crucified," a second user chimed in.
"Critique the delivery, but in this case he isn't wrong. There are indeed a lot of pew potatoes," a third user remarked.
At the time of writing, Pastor Mike has not responded to the backlash over the clip.
