Hetfield explained that the band declined the invitation last year, despite Metallica's continued success with their M72 World Tour.

Metallica have toured internationally since launching the M72 World Tour in 2023 and are currently performing a residency at the Sphere in Las Vegas.

Metallica Frontman James Hetfield Reveals Turnstile Rejected Tour Offer

Hetfield made the revelation during a recent appearance on SiriusXM's Riff Life, where he praised Turnstile and their energetic live performances.

"We wanted to get them on tour and they said no. They're doing good on their own already," the rock legend said.

"What a vibe they bring. They are so fun. Go see them play if you can. Just like many, many bands, they sound great on their records and recordings, but man, when you see them live, you totally get it."

Hetfield has previously expressed his admiration for Turnstile, having watched the band perform at Norway's Tons of Rock Festival in 2024.

Footage of the Metallica singer enjoying their performance alongside Judas Priest frontman Rob Halford subsequently went viral.

"We've hung out with them a bit," Hetfield added. "Super cool guys, super fun. They've got a gal in the band now playing, which is fun."

Metallica Announce More M72 World Tour Dates for 2027

Despite Turnstile declining the opportunity, Metallica have continued attracting major supporting acts throughout their extensive world tour.

The band recently announced additional North American dates for 2027, beginning in Vancouver, Canada, on May 8.

The upcoming run will continue across the United States before concluding in Salt Lake City on June 19.

Nu-metal legends Limp Bizkit will join Metallica as a supporting act alongside Swedish metal band Avatar.

Avatar previously supported Metallica during their July 5, 2026, performance in London, where Pantera served as the main opening act.

The M72 World Tour has featured 111 shows, with reports indicating that 86 performances generated approximately $668.4 million in revenue and attracted 5.32 million fans.

Those figures place the tour among the highest-grossing concert tours in history, ranking sixth for the 2020s and ninth overall.

Much of the tour has followed Metallica's distinctive two-night format, with the band performing different setlists and featuring different opening acts at each show.
