The incident followed several days of heavy rainfall across Southern California, although authorities reported no injuries.
The sinkhole initially measured approximately eight feet before expanding to around 30 feet, swallowing much of the driveway and leaving debris scattered across the property.
Hollywood Actor Nicolas Cage Reveals He Is Living in Hotels
Cage, 62, attended L.A. Comic Con on Saturday, where he opened up about his current living arrangements after someone asked about his Halloween plans.
"I'm currently a little bit homeless, he said. "Something happened to my house in Malibu so I'm just sort of living in hotels so I don't have normal trick or treaters I would like to enjoy tonight."
Despite the disruption, Cage revealed that he still planned to celebrate Halloween with his four-year-old daughter, August.
The actor said he would take her trick-or-treating in Santa Monica before returning to watch Stanley Kubrick's classic horror movie The Shining after putting her to bed.
Malibu Sinkhole Forces Evacuation of 31 Homes
The City of Malibu declared a local emergency in September after the sinkhole outside Cage's $10.5 million mansion rapidly expanded, prompting authorities to order the evacuation of 31 nearby homes.
Officials raised concerns about the collapse's impact on emergency access, particularly for larger vehicles attempting to reach the affected neighborhood.
"Emergency personnel access is severely constrained and may be impassable, due to the large portion of the road that has collapsed," the city wrote in its emergency declaration.
"The intact portion of the roadway is too narrow to accommodate emergency response vehicles, including fire engines and other large apparatus, creating a substantial risk to public safety and emergency response capabilities."
Authorities subsequently opened a temporary shelter at Malibu High School on Morning View Drive to accommodate residents affected by the evacuation order.
The collapse near Cage's property also reportedly triggered a gas leak, prompting emergency crews to respond.
Crews eventually secured the leak, although officials shut off gas services across the affected area as a precaution.
Authorities also warned that they could suspend water services if conditions deteriorated further.
