Colorado quarterback Julian Lewis, 19, reportedly experienced a health issue on Wednesday before medical personnel rushed him to the hospital.

His father, T. Carlton Lewis, provided an update on Thursday, confirming that his son was recovering following the incident.

"He is recovering and thankful to his medical team, teammates, and Colorado fans for their prayers and support," Lewis wrote in a statement on X.

"Please respect Julian and the Lewis family's privacy. We will have no further comment at this time."

Colorado Football Player Recovering After Medical Emergency

The University of Colorado Boulder's athletic department also released a statement on Thursday, expressing its support for Lewis and his family.

"Colorado Athletics extends our full support to JuJu and his family through this medical emergency," the university's press release said.

"He remains in the thoughts of every CU player, coach, and staff member, and we will continue to assist in any way we can in his full recovery. His health and well-being remain our top priority during this time."

Colorado subsequently listed Lewis as doubtful on its latest availability report ahead of Saturday's game against Kansas State.

The 19-year-old arrived at Colorado as a five-star recruit from Carrollton High School in Georgia, where he established himself as one of the top quarterback prospects in the 2025 recruiting class.

Julian Lewis' College Football Career and Recent Performances

Lewis comes from a football family, with his father previously playing for UConn and his grandfather, Ty, working as a high school football coach.

Following an impressive high school career, Lewis reportedly received as many as 35 college football offers, including interest from Georgia, Ohio State, Indiana and USC.

He initially committed to USC before reversing his decision and announcing his intention to join Colorado in November 2024.

Lewis started Colorado's first four games of the season, with his most recent appearance coming in a 23-13 defeat to Baylor on September 26.

The coaching staff subsequently replaced him with junior quarterback Isaac Wilson, although Colorado has lost all three games since making the change.

Those struggles had raised the possibility of Lewis returning to the starting lineup before Wednesday's medical emergency.

Across his four starts this season, Lewis completed 61 of 95 pass attempts (64.2%) for 733 yards, six touchdowns and two interceptions.

He also contributed a rushing touchdown during those appearances.
