Per Fox35 Orlando, they were awakened in the middle of the night on Monday, October 19. A truck came barreling into their Ocoee, Florida, home. Their residence was left in a shambles. Per the outlet, "furniture and personal belongings" were ruined. Tragically, the family's dog, Ginger, lost her life in the crash.
By some miracle, the truck halted only five feet from where Whudmayer, his wife, and their kids were asleep. Nevertheless, they were incredibly lucky to escape the mayhem unharmed. In fact, Louis Whudmayer said per the outlet, "Five more feet, that would have been in our bed, and my wife and I and our kids wouldn't have been here."
The Driver Was Arrested
The man who was driving the truck that hit the Whudmayers' home was arrested. Marcus Zamora, 30, faces a charge of alleged DUI. Furthermore, it seems like he had some remorse after the fact. An arrest report allegedly mentioned that he said while being treated at a hospital, "I shouldn't have been drinking and driving."
Additionally, Whudmayer clearly agrees. The lives of his family were jeopardized. And a beloved family pet died. He ruefully observed, "Just to think about how someone could be drinking and driving, and then instead of calling an Uber, there are multiple options calling an Uber, a family member, but decided to get behind the wheel and obviously cause what happened."
The Whudmayers are looking through their possessions to determine what can be saved. They are also hunting for somewhere else to live. In moments. their daily existence was completely upended.
The Ocoee Police Department Implores People Not To Drink and Drive
In a
Facebook post, the Ocoee Police Department brought the Whudmayers' plight to the public's attention. Moreover, a photo shows the massive damage done by the truck to the exterior of their home. The post is captioned, "ONE DECISION. A LIFETIME OF CONSEQUENCES."It states in part, "This is the reality of DUI. It's not just about the person who gets behind the wheel. It's about the innocent people, families and pets who pay the price for someone else's decision. If you're drinking, don't drive. Make a plan, call a sober driver or use a rideshare. A single bad decision can change someone else's life forever."
