Jane Curtin Mourns Her ‘Kate & Allie’ Partner After Susan Saint James Dies at 80

Jane Curtin described her 'Kate and Allie' co-star as "a decent person" who put other people before herself. Susan Saint James was 80.

Jane Curtin is mourning the loss of her Kate & Allie co-star after the tragic passing of Susan Saint James. As reported by Page Six, she opened up to the outlet about just what she meant to her.

"We lost a decent person today," she wrote. ""Susan St. James was a decent person who made 'Kate and Allie' a joy. She juggled a really full life from the Ed Sullivan Theater in between working on stage and being the Mom on set."

Curtin also wrote about her activities outside of Kate & Allie, noting her charitable work with organizations such as the Special Olympics. "All the while raising children and going through the horrors of losing a child," she added. She is referring to the loss of James' youngest son, who died in 2004 at just 14 years old.

"Susan was my friend, and working with her brought such laughter, community and family to the stage at the Ed Sullivan Theater," Curtin added. "I'll miss her."

Susan Saint James Was Known For Being Selfless

The Kate & Allie star was known for being selfless throughout her life. This is something her family reflected on in their statement announcing her tragic passing at 80 years old.

As we reported, they wrote she was "generous with her time and energy, which she valued more than money, and instinctively drawn to whoever needed lifting up. She taught her children to pause, be kind and look out for other people."

The statement also reflected on the days after the tragic passing of Teddy, with her family continuing, "Her defining act: weeks after losing her youngest son, Teddy, in the November 28, 2004 plane crash, she delivered his eulogy as a note to each of her other children and her husband, giving them words to heal.

"Even in the deepest grief of her life, she put everyone else first. Days after the crash she sat with Tim Russert to thank the people who had reached out."

This is a truly tragic loss for her friends, family, and also for everyone who loved seeing her on screen. May she rest in peace.
