Charles Kelley Says the Treatment Has Been "Pretty Hard"
The 45-year-old Lady A singer uploaded a clip to Instagram Stories yesterday, Oct. 26. In the video, which he recorded alongside his wife, Cassie, he talked about how his cancer treatment is going.
"I've had a few people ask me how things are going, and we are Team Tired over here," he said in the clip. "It's been good. The good thing is the treatment is working really well, but I will say I naively thought I would not be in so much pain."
Kelley added that the treatment drugs have been "pretty hard" on his body, causing "full-body aches." Still, he takes solace in the fact that the treatment "is working."
"It's kind of constantly achy and really tired, but I do have my good days and my bad days," he explained. "It's a trip. But we're getting through it... I'm hoping that as the chemo gets in there and fights off these cancer cells that my bones and everything will actually feel a lot better over the next few weeks. But it ain't no joke, man. It's real."
The Lady A Singer's Wife Also Had an Update
Cassie shared her own update on Instagram Stories. In it, she said Kelley is scheduled to undergo his fourth treatment today, Oct. 27.
"When people ask, 'How are you doing?' Honestly, the answer's not great. We are not doing great over here," she said. "But we're doing our best, and one of my favorite sayings in Al-Anon is, 'Your best is always good enough.' So like, it's good enough... Today was not great, but tomorrow is treatment four, and I will find things to be grateful for tomorrow for sure."
The update comes a few days before the release of "Bigger Picture," the newest single from Lady A. Its lyrics seem to apply to Kelley's current situation.
"We cut it the next day, and then, a week later, we learned of Charles' cancer diagnosis," the band wrote in a post earlier this month. "God's timing in allowing this song to find us and the message behind it is truly carrying us right now, and we can't help but think some of y'all might need to hear it too. We trust there's a bigger picture."
