The 66-year-old rock singer recently shared several updates with fans. She explained that she sought medical attention after experiencing unusual symptoms. She had difficulty seeing and thinking straight.
It's lucky that she did. Currie revealed that doctors discovered a 90% blockage in her internal carotid artery, a major blood vessel responsible for supplying blood to the brain. Basically, she was a "dead man walking" in her own words.
"This nurse came in, wonderful man, but he basically turned around and said I was a dead man walking when I drove into the hospital parking lot," she said. The diagnosis came as a complete surprise.
According to Hot Metal, Currie first addressed her condition in an Oct. 18 video filmed from her hospital bed.
Rock Singer Has Stroke
She explained that she had recently watched a social media video featuring a neurosurgeon discussing warning signs of a possible stroke. Several of the symptoms sounded familiar. Although Currie initially continued with her daily activities, she became increasingly concerned about her health while driving.
Eventually, she decided to take herself to the emergency room.
"So, the deal is that I'm on this very heavy-duty medication," she said. "On the 30th, I'll go in, and they'll put me to sleep, and they'll put a camera through the artery in my groin. They go up to my neck and look at the blockage and see what they're dealing with. Then I have to go into the hospital, and they're going to do the surgery. I'm told they're going to cut me, vertical cut here (neck), which I'm hoping they're not going to have to do, but we'll see. And then I'm going to be in the ICU for a night or two. But, I think then my eye-sight will get back to normal again, which I'm really looking forward to," she said.
Despite the uncertainty, she remained optimistic and expressed gratitude for the support she received. Fortunately, Currie was discharged from the hospital on Oct. 19.
"But I am the luckiest woman on the planet, and I thank you so much for your love and care my friends," she said. "Your loving powerful prayers helped me immensely, and I love you so much."
