Kid Rock appears to be ready to embark on a new career path as a professional hooper — at least according to a tongue-in-cheek social media video.
The rock star appeared in a social media video with NBA veteran Enes Kanter Freedom on Monday (October 26). In the clip, Kid Rock jokingly said he was joining Freedom in his effort to enter the 2027 WNBA Draft after saying, "I'm a woman also."
"I cannot wait to enter the WNBA Draft in 2027 with my friend," Kanter says around the seven-second mark of the clip before Kid Rock shows up on screen.
"Yep, me too, I'm a woman also, and I'm joining," Kid Rock says with a smile on his face.
"@KidRock has officially declared himself a woman and is joining me in the 2027 @WNBA Draft. Shaq and Kobe walked so we could run. From ROCK & ROLL to PICK & ROLL," the former NBA player captioned the post.
The clip went viral on social media on Monday, which led to an outpouring of reactions from fans.
"When will this lame publicity stunt be over? Is this because he can't get a job in the NBA?" one person asked on X, formerly known as Twitter.
"Kid Rock would get destroyed by WNBA players. He would be gassed in 30 seconds," a second user chimed in.
"Stunning and brave! You both are so pretty and shining examples of femininity. Best of luck on the draft!" a third user remarked.
Kanter Freedom initially revealed his plans to pursue a spot in the 2027 WNBA Draft back in August. He argued that the league's written eligibility language allowed him to do so after saying he identified as a woman.
However, the WNBA has since rejected that interpretation. Commissioner Cathy Engelbert said in an Oct. 16 letter that Freedom and former NBA player Royce White are not eligible to play in the league.
The exact date for the 2027 WNBA Draft has not yet been officially announced by the league, though it is broadly expected to take place in April 2027.
