Sylvester Stallone Said His Agents Called "Rhinestone" a "Career Killer"
Stallone talked about the film on a recent episode of Entertainment Tonight. The 80-year-old Rambo actor said his agents called it "a career killer."
"I go, 'So be it,'" he said.
Stallone said he was determined to work with Parton, who he called a "a real icon." He remembered that the "Jolene" singer "never stopped literally laughing" and "knew the name of every crew member."
"Everyone loved her, and I don't think people realize what a brilliant mind she had. She was just incredible. I used to call her 'the Pioneer Woman' that could do everything to survive. And she did," said Stallone.
Dolly Parton Made Stallone Smile
Stallone also told a "crazy story" from filming Rhinestone.
"We were down in Tennessee filming, and when we had a little time off, they took us to a horse farm," said Stallone. "And down there they bred these Tennessee Walking Horses, that high-stepping, very, very difficult horse to ride if you don't know what you're doing."
The owner told Stallone to ride his "favorite gray stallion" and suggested that Parton go on the horse behind him. Stallone said he had ridden horses all his life, but this breed was different.
"This thing was gigantic. It's like riding a building," said Stallone. "So I said, 'Dolly, you okay?' [She replied] 'Sure am, honey. Go ahead.' So I kicked the horse, and it starts moving. Prancing."
The ride started to go wrong when Stallone's horse stubbed its toe.
"It trips, and then we start to roll forward. Oh, no. It's like everything's going in slow motion and Dolly's going, 'Are we falling?' I go, 'We are falling,'" said Stallone.
He then added, "This horse rolled all the way down. And we cascaded off of it and landed in the grass. And the horse rolled beside us. Oh my God, we would have been a couple of pancakes."
According to Stallone, Parton took it all in stride.
He said with a laugh, "She got up laughing and goes, 'Let's do that again.' So being macho, I said, 'Of course... I was just waiting for you to ask.'"
