Julie Andrews Isn't Retired Yet

Page Six published several photos of the 91-year-old Andrews. She was seen last Friday, Oct. 16, being helped out of a vehicle.

However, this wasn't some red-carpet gala or world premiere. The Sound of Music actress donned a white cap and a purple jacket. She also wore rose-colored glasses.

A few months earlier, Andrews announced that after nearly 80 years on the silver screen, she planned to focus more on voice roles. She also told reporters she would not return for the third Princess Diaries film.

"I'm not completely retired, but it's a different kind of work that I do these days — [writing] books, and I do a lot of recording of podcasts and voiceovers," she said in August.

Andrews Has Decades-Long Friendships, Too

A long career in Hollywood comes with long friendships, and Andrews is no exception. She and Carol Burnett have performed together several times, and Andrews made Burnett her daughter's godmother.

They co-starred on the CBS TV special, Julie and Carol at Carnegie Hall. Mike Nichols wrote the comedy special, which featured Andrews and Burnett making jokes and singing various songs. The special won the 1963 Emmy Award for Outstanding Program Achievement in the Field of Music. Andrews and Burnett teamed up again in 1971 for Julie and Carol at Lincoln Center, and for another special, Julie & Carol: Together Again, in 1989.

"She brings out the mischief in me, and she's the quiet one," Andrews said in an interview. "It's very funny."

Andrews is also still friends with her Mary Poppins co-star, Dick Van Dyke, who just became a centenarian. When asked what the secret to his longevity is, he gave a surprising answer.

"People say, 'What did you do right?' I don't know. I'm rather lazy," he said. "I've always thought that anger is one thing that eats up a person's insides — and hate. And I never really was able to work up a feeling of hate. I think that is one of the chief things that kept me going."
