Gabriela Gonzalez, a TikTok celeb, is battling accusations that she hired a hitman on the dark web with cryptocurrency to murder her ex, singer Jack Avery. According to Rolling Stone, Cody Clayburn, an ex-boyfriend of Gonzalez, testified in a Los Angeles court on Oct. 20 that the influencer admitted to hating Avery amid a vicious custody battle over the child they share. Meanwhile, Avery, formerly a singer for the boy band Why Don't We, looked on.
Clayburn testified that he met Gonzalez in 2021, which is around when prosecutors claim the influencer, along with her father and yet another ex-boyfriend, Kai Cordrey, planned to contract an "expert hitman" to take Avery out.
"I asked her that night what was going on, and she said that her ex, Kai Cordrey, was obsessed with her and wanted to help carry out a plan to get rid of Jack, and that there had been a Bitcoin payment. And then she was freaking out, wanted to leave the country, and she said if they opened up her phone, that she would be in prison," Clayburn recalled via video, according to Rolling Stone.
Clayburn also claimed that Gonzalez mentioned possibly fleeing to South America.
"She was just very overwhelmed. She was just worried," her former boyfriend alleged in the video testimony.
Singer Sat Just Feet Away From Ex Accused of Murder-for-Hire Plot
Meanwhile, Gonzalez, seated just ten feet away from her singer ex, sat quietly. The 25-year-old's legal team informed the judge that she would be invoking her Fifth Amendment right and would not testify.
The influencer, along with her ex, Cordrey, and her father, Francisco Gonzalez, were arrested back in May. The trio was charged with "conspiracy to commit murder, attempted murder, and solicitation to commit murder," per Rolling Stone. If convicted, they reportedly face 25 years to life in state prison.
This was reportedly the first time the singer and his ex were in court at the same time.
The TikTok star and Avery began dating in 2018. Gonzalez gave birth to their daughter in 2019 when she was 17. Avery is reportedly seeking sole custody of their daughter. He's also filed for court-ordered protection. Gonzalez reportedly hasn't seen the child since her July arrest and release on bail.
