NFL Hall of Famer's Son Subjected to Alleged Racist Bullying
According to a Monday (October 19) report from the California Post, Dickerson's son, identified as "DD" in court documents, alleged that he was called the N-word, in addition to other instances of physical and verbal bullying, according to court documents obtained by the outlet.
DD was in sixth grade at the time and said that he experienced a traumatic 2024-2025 school year. He became the subject of racial harassment at Oaks Christian School, a private institution where tuition and fees for new students in grades 5-12 can reach $47,930 a year.
In addition to being called racial slurs, the report adds that the son of the Hall of Famer was "compared to an animal" and "labeled with a racist nickname."
The lawsuit says that faculty at the school were alerted to the bullying that DD was allegedly subjected to, but meaningful disciplinary action was not taken.
"His family repeatedly told Oaks Christian what was happening and asked the school to protect him," Robert Glassman, the family's attorney, told the California Post (via New York Post). "Instead of stopping the abuse, the school allowed it to continue."
DD Allegedly Endured Traumatic Sixth-Grade Year
The lawsuit specifically references one instance where the school took a field trip to the zoo and one of the students likened DD's appearance to one of the animals. The same student who allegedly subjected him to racial harassment was also allegedly known to carry a knife on campus. The lawsuit claims the school did not impose disciplinary action over either the harassment or the weapon.
The suit also references an incident that happened in the school's lunchroom. A female student allegedly struck DD in the head, took his food and poured out his water. According to the lawsuit, the school reviewed video of the incident and confirmed that she had struck him, but its response was limited to speaking with the student and telling her not to do it again.
White students also allegedly gave DD the nickname "n***erson," a racist play on his last name, Dickerson.
In a statement to the outlet, the school said that it "disputes the allegations regarding its conduct and will respond through the legal process."
