This comes several weeks after reports that guitarist Naomi McPherson, who uses they/them pronouns, announced that they would miss several tour dates to spend time with their terminally ill mother.
Is MUNA Ok After the Tour Bus Fire?
As PEOPLE reports, MUNA was traveling south on I-5 in Burbank, California, when the vehicle caught fire around 8:20 a.m. The fire was contained by the Burbank Fire Department.
No one from the band or their crew was injured. Investigators are looking into the cause of the fire.
The "Dancing on the Wall" band posted an image of the incident on its Instagram page.
"The band MUNA as seen on the news this morning," the caption read. "Many personal items were lost but we're all safe, thank goodness."
McPherson commented on the post about the fire, finding humor during a tragic time.
They wrote, "If anyone could help me find the grandchild of the warlock whose curse is wreaking havoc on my life so that i can carry em up the mountain & fulfill the prophecy / undo the curse that has befallen me that would be much appreciated."
The Moment Comes at a Tragic Time for the Band
The tour bus fire comes several weeks after the 33-year-old McPherson shared that they would miss a portion of MUNA's fall tour, as their mother had terminal cancer and was in her "final days."
"Tragically, Naomi's mother, Harriet, has been suffering for some time now from an extremely aggressive and terminal form of cancer that has escalated in severity over the past few weeks," the band said in the statement. "Now, it has become clear that her passing will coincide with the beginning of this headline tour."
The dates went on as scheduled with another musician filling in for McPherson. They returned to the tour on Sep. 29 after the death of their mother.
