Rhea Ripley Shares Recovery Update Amid WWE Absence
Ripley, who made her WWE debut in August 2017, is currently on the mend as she recovers from knee surgery.
The WWE star announced on Aug. 7 via Instagram that she underwent surgery to repair a torn meniscus in her right knee.
"Surgery was never a first option for me, but it got to the point that it was needed. First one down. Hopefully no more," she wrote on social media. "I've survived. Now it's time to start thriving again so I can get back to what I love to do!"
Last month, Ripley revealed that she had to relearn how to walk following the procedure and will likely remain sidelined for the foreseeable future.
The meniscus tear has kept Ripley out of action since June. Due to her injury, Ripley was forced to vacate the WWE Women's Championship on July 17. Chelsea Green later became the Interim WWE Women's Champion at SummerSlam.
Although Ripley is eager to return to the ring, WWE star IYO SKY believes that the injury may be a blessing in disguise for her former Tag Team Champion and will force her to get some much-needed rest.
"I totally understand what she's doing and why she needed to take time for now," SKY toldThe Ringer Wrestling Show. "Because she — I really know she was being too busy, way busier than me. She was all over the world. She had main events, she had a championship match, and she had media interviews."
SKY added, "Sometimes I think about her, oh my gosh, she's overworking, something like that. Now she's injured. That makes me sad, but she definitely needs time to take time [off]. But I know her personality. She will come back when she is becoming much stronger than before."
