Hassan was the mastermind who spearheaded the November 2009 Fort Hood shooting. It was a mass shooting carried out at the Fort Hood military post near Killeen, Texas. His execution via a firing squad was set to be livestreamed. However, United States President Donald Trump says that the livestream has now been axed.
Fort Hood Shooter's Execution Won't Be Livestreamed
In a post to his Truth Social account on Thursday (October 15), the president said that the scheduled livestream "might have been a strong deterrent for the World to witness how America deals with Terrorists and SCUM like Hasan.
He also added: "Many very good and well-meaning people would rather not watch him die, through streaming, or through any other visual device."
However, Trump also made it clear that the Fort Hood shooter will still be executed by firing squad as scheduled. It just will no longer be livestreamed.
"He will die, as scheduled, by firing squad, but this event will not be streamed," Trump added. "That said, the execution may be viewed in person by the immediate families of the victims, if they so choose. They deserve to witness JUSTICE! Thank you for your attention to this matter."
There were a lot of reactions to the latest update from the president.
"Glad to see this not broadcast. Bad idea from the outset," one user wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.
"I gotta be honest, I was looking forward to it - but it's the right call - two things can be true," a second user chimed in.
When the Fort Hood Shooter's execution was initially announced, Secretary of War Pete Hegseth did not disclose a date. He did, however, say that the execution would involve "soldiers with rifles executing the firing squad."
He also said that the execution would occur at 1:00 pm on a Thursday. An act of retribution for the Fort Hood shooting, which occurred on the same date and time.
