Harvey, 33, released a statement on social media on Oct. 13 announcing his diagnosis.
"My entire career has been about fighting for what's next. The next opportunity. The next chance to prove myself and the next time I could get back in the car and show what I'm capable of," Harvey wrote on Instagram.
"There have been moments when the path forward was obvious, and plenty when it wasn't. I've had to earn opportunities, fight to keep them, and learn how to keep moving when things didn't go the way I planned," he added.
"But through all of it, I've never stopped believing that there was something worth fighting for," Harvey continued. "Life has delivered a new fight to my doorstep. I have recently been diagnosed with cancer."
IndyCar Driver Plans to Continue Racing Amid Cancer Diagnosis
Harvey, of England, has started chemotherapy, according to RACER reporter Marshall Pruett.
Despite his diagnosis, the British driver intends to continue pulling double duty as a broadcaster and racer.
Harvey announced that his "goals for 2027 have not changed" and that he plans to return to broadcasting for the season-opening race in St. Petersburg, Fla., in March 2027.
Harvey is also eyeing a return to the track in May 2027, where he hopes to compete in the Indy 500.
The No. 24 car at Dreyer & Reinbold Racing is his target, according to WISH-TV's Michaela Springer, though Pruett said his return to the team is not yet confirmed.
"Our entire team stands united in support of Jack as he begins his battle with cancer," Dreyer & Reinbold Racing said, quoted by Pockrass. "More than a teammate, Jack is a valued member of our family. Our thoughts and unwavering support are with him and his loved ones as he faces this new challenge. We respectfully ask that Jack's privacy be honored as he focuses on his health and recovery."
The 33-year-old driver praised his family, friends, and the FOX and IndyCar community for their support.
Harvey concluded his statement with a defiant message, saying, "I've never backed away from a challenge in my life, and this circumstance is no different. So, let's fight."
