Perry Tole, who was 69 years old at the time, reportedly stabbed and pepper sprayed Sanchez during the incident, which took place in Indianapolis. Sanchez was in the city to cover an NFL game between the Indianapolis Colts and the Las Vegas Raiders.
According to prosecutors in the case, Tole used both the knife and pepper spray to defend himself. Sanchez is alleged to have attempted to enter the 69-year-old's truck following an argument over a parking spot.
"The incident left Sanchez with stab wounds to his torso, and the former quarterback later said the surgeon who operated on him 'saved my life,'" The Guardian reports. "...Last month, Sanchez's lawyers filed a motion to plead guilty to at least one charge in his criminal case; that charge has not been specified."
It's worth noting that because Sanchez has reached an agreement in principle, nothing has yet been signed by either party.
Following the incident, Sanchez was arrested while being treated at the hospital.
"According to court documents in the civil case, Tole suffered 'significant injuries to his head, jaw, and neck,' and is seeking damages for his injuries," The Athletic reports.
Fox Sports released Sanchez following his arrest.
