United States President Donald Trump is once again facing legal action. Per a Wednesday (October 7) report from the Associated Press, President Trump is being sued by the Democratic National Committee. Court documents obtained by the outlet showed that the Dems are suing Trump over his recent television ads. They allege that it is illegal to use taxpayer funds to spread propaganda.
DNC Sues Trump Over Television Ads Ahead of Elections
Per the outlet, the ads that began to air last month have cost a pretty penny. To the tune of more than $12 million. That's in addition to an alleged $20 million tab at the expense of the Department of Homeland Security.
Ken Martin, Chair of the Democratic National Committee, said that using taxpayer money to fund these ads is a "last-ditch attempt" for the President to save face for the Republicans ahead of the midterm elections next month.
President Trump, the White House, the Department of Homeland Security, and the Office of Management and Budget are all named as defendants in the lawsuit.
This is just the latest legal saga to come to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. Back on September 18, Trump announced a ban on CNN and several other prominent outlets. Barring them from accessing media availability at the white house.
In response, CNN, MS Now, and Politico have took legal action against Trump and his administration.
They noted that the lawsuit was a move to "protect [their] First Amendment rights and defend the principle that the government does not decide what the press reports or publishes" (via New York Post)
It didn't take long for the saga to be resolved. On September 24, less than a week after the President announced the ban, a federal judge lifted it. Citing that it was unlawful.
It will be interesting to see what the outcome is for the Democratic National Committee.
