The actor, who was more recently working as an entrepreneur and a builder outside of Chicago, passed away on Sept. 23, "surrounded by the people he loved most, after a fearless journey with cancer," his family announced in an online obituary.
After a stint in the Army and some time as a model, Mortimer made his small-screen debut as Nick Hudson, the long-lost member of Bay City's central Hudson family on Another World in 1996. He was the third actor to play the role (after Justin Chambers and Kevin McClatchy), but his time spent embodying the character proved to be prolific for the soap.
Per IMDb, Mortimer played Hudson across 81 episodes until the series concluded in 1999.
After his time on Another World, Mortimer popped up on shows like Spin City and The $treet. The 2005 film The Nowhere Man was his final acting role before he transitioned to a career in building, founding Inside Out Construction in Batavia, Illinois.

"He was an Army veteran, a model, an actor, an entrepreneur, and a builder. He was a husband, father, son, brother, and friend," his family wrote in his obituary. "[Mark] was curious and determined. [He was] willing to take chances, start something new, change direction, and figure things out along the way."
"Of all the titles Mark held throughout his life, the two that mattered most to him were husband and dad," they added.
Mark Mortimer was Diagnosed with Cancer in 2024
Born in St. Charles, Illinois, Mortimer was diagnosed with an unspecified cancer in 2024. Alongside his wife, Christie, he founded the Integrative Access Foundation. The organization is designed to support cancer patients struggling to pay for integrative therapies while facing the disease.
"Mark faced the end of his life with the same faith with which he lived it," Mortimer's family wrote. "His confidence did not come from believing everything would turn out the way he wanted. It came from knowing where he was going. He believed in Jesus. He believed in the promise of Heaven. And as his earthly life drew to a close, that belief gave him peace."
Along with his wife, Mortimer is survived by his daughter, Hunter.
Mark Mortimer was 59.
