"Her family remembers her as "an inimitable force of nature" and "an irreplaceable being of light and joy," a woman whose generosity and fire touched everyone who shared a stage, a studio or a kitchen table with her," Blabbermouth reports.
Sass was born under the name of Sarah Johnson. She originally hailed from Birmingham, England, the same city as the late, great Ozzy Osbourne. At three years old, she moved to Montreal, Canada. By the age of 16, Sass was fronting bands in Montreal. She also experimented with being a singer and a bassist, as she sought to find her sound.
According to Blabbermouth, Sass drew inspiration from a wide range of musicians. Those included Osbourne, Judas Priest, Rod Stewart, Anthrax, and Steven Tyler of Aerosmith. Sass' love for music and willingness to learn from others undoubtedly helped carve out her unique style.
After years of practice, Sass began her recording career in 1986. She was the co-lead vocalist on "Come On (Baby Tonight)" from Bundock. After that success, Sass quickly became a hot commodity in Montreal. She began working with other artists around the city.
However, just two years later, she released her debut solo track. "Tell Somebody" quickly rose in the Canadian charts, peaking at No. 11. Later that year, Sass won the Juno Award for "Most Promising Female Vocalist."
Sass Jordan Eventually Moved to Los Angeles
Like most successful musicians, Sass eventually moved to Los Angeles in 1990. Two years later, she released "Racine." That album quickly became her defining work and remains popular among her fanbase.
"Make You A Believer" has over 4.1 million streams on Spotify. "You Don't Have To Remind Me" is sitting at close to 870,000. Both tracks were among the more successful from the release.
With such a wide array of work, Sass' fanbase will certainly have plenty of ways to remember her and the impact her music had on their lives. Currently, there is no information regarding her cause of death. Those details will likely remain private. Her family will undoubtedly ask for privacy as they navigate such a difficult time.
