Beloved Discount Retailer Closing More Stores — Here’s Where

The beloved discount retailer has closed several mainstay stores in recent months, leaving customers mourning.

A beloved discount retailer has announced that they are closing yet more stores. As reported by the New York Post, this isn't the first time this year, either.

T.J. Maxx has announced that there have been closures of several stores in the US. Two have already closed, however one is still open, with its closing date not yet confirmed by the discount retailer. This has left customers in limbo as to how long they'll get to go to the beloved discount retailer.

The following stores have been closed:

  • The discount retailer shuttered their doors at the Ellsworth Place mall after a 10-year run. Around 60 workers were let go after the store shuttered its doors for the last time.

Massachusetts - 360 Newbury Street, Boston, MA 02115

  • The last day of business for this three-story behemoth of a T.J. Maxx was January 5 of this year. A Massachusetts WARN notice confirmed this one, with 117 workers in total needing to be let go.

And, this store will be closed at some point:

Maryland - 1262 Vocke Road, Cumberland, MD 21502

  • There aren't many details online as to whether this place is still operational or not. While the Country Club Mall mainstay is listed as permanently closed on T.J. Maxx's website, its Google Maps listing shows it as "temporarily closed".

The Top Brass of the Discount Retailer Aren't Worried

The CFO of the beloved discount retailer, John Klinger, has said that T.J. Maxx is focused on where the demand is.

"We're seeing opportunities in rural markets," he explained on a recent earnings call. "We've experienced strong comp growth for so many quarters that we're seeing the ability to put stores closer together than we thought before. And then, [we want to build] the small-format store that allows us to expand in a lot of densely populated urban areas, as well."

The numbers don't lie on this one - with 11 stores set to open in 2027. Here's hoping that these communities get a new T.J. Maxx not so far away from them - I know I'd be frustrated if I didn't!
