Trump Set to Mail Refunds to Nearly 1 Million Americans
Roughly 950,000 people who were enrolled in Obamacare in 30 states will receive $500 checks starting this week. The resason? Some of the enrollees were allegedly overcharged under the healthcare plan during Joe Biden's tenure. Due to the administration overcharging user fees to insurance companies, which resulted in higher rates for consumers. Per a Thursday (September 30) report from the New York Post.
"I am proud to return your money to you, and I will never stop fighting to put the American People FIRST, restore Affordability, protect your hard-earned money, and lower the Cost of Healthcare," the President said in a letter mailed to recipients on Wednesday.
Trump also took a slight at Biden and his administration. Accusing them of intentionally overcharging members to fund the Healthcare.gov operation
For years, the Biden administration overcharged you to fund the operation of HealthCare.gov. That money belongs to hard-working Americans, not the Government, and now I'm returning it to you!" The letter adds. "You have paid into this flawed System, and now you are finally getting something back."
Of course, there were a lot of reactions to the news.
"So here's the rub. The checks are going to those insured that have no subsidies on premiums. Those are the people who do not need the refund. Always helping the rich...always," one user wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.
"Here's your $500 gift for no longer having health insurance. It should cover your care, which is thousands of dollars," a second user added.
"If he can barely dish out $500 to less than .5% of America, how can we expect him to fulfill his promise of paying everyone that $5000 for helping his party win," a third user remarked.
Neither Biden nor Barack Obama has responded to Trump's comments at the time of writing
