Ohio cancer patient is taking legal action against a hospital after they made a grave mistake. The woman went in to have a mandated amputative surgery to remove her leg. But thanks to the hospital, she is now a double amputee. Due to one of the surgeons allegedly amputating the wrong leg. According to the court filing obtained by WBNS.

Woman Sues Hospital After She Has The Wrong Leg Amputated
The woman, named Sharon Jacks, was set to have most of her right leg removed at Selby General Hospital in Marietta, Ohio, back in September 2025. But to her surprise, when she woke up from the surgery, it was her left leg that had been removed.
"She went into surgery, and when she woke up, the wrong leg had been taken off," Jack's attorney Brad Layne said in a statement to WCHS. "It defies explanation, obviously."
Obviously, the wrong leg being removed didn't just make the problem disappear. Her right leg still needed to be amputated. Leaving her a double amputee.
Jacks filed a lawsuit against Selby General Hospital on September 15. A little less than a year after the tragic procedure.
In a press release following the filing of the charges, Layne said that there is "simply no excuse" for what happened to his client. And called the mishap "complete and total failure by multiple medical professionals caused this catastrophe."
"Despite several opportunities to identify the mistake and stop the procedure, the surgical team somehow never noticed they were operating on the wrong leg," he said in the release.
"Now every day for the rest of her life, Sharon Jacks must live with the consequences of those failures."
Jacks' filing accuses Selby General of a slew of infractions. These include gross negligence, reckless conduct, and corporate negligence.
In addition, Jacks and Layne are seeking compensatory and punitive damages. She seeks to cover the medical expenses that she incurred, as well as the emotional distress she suffered as a result.
