"Brock Faber suffered a skull fracture in Friday's preseason game and underwent successful surgery on Sunday," the team wrote on X. "A timeline for his return to hockey will be provided at a later date."

When speaking with The Athletic, Wild General Manager Bill Guerin noted that Faber is doing well following the surgery.

"He just had a serious surgery and an injury, so we're just gonna update you guys when the time's right," Guerin said. "But he's doing well. He's doing really well, which is good news. And we'll just follow the doctors' leads."

Faber sustained his injury after falling on the ice. He could be seen holding the left side of his head, leading assistant athletic trainer Brian Grogesky to step onto the ice and check on Faber's condition. Shockingly, Faber managed to remain in the game. He was, however, removed in the third period, which is when he was then taken to the hospital.

The Minnesota Wild Will Miss Brock Faber This Season

Losing Faber is going to be a massive blow to the wild. He's one of their key defensemen and has averaged just over 25 minutes of playing time per game for each of the past three seasons.

"Brock's a great player," Guerin said. "He's a big player for us. So it's always gonna affect your team when guys like that are out. But the biggest thing here is that he's doing well, and sometimes you just have to put the hockey aside and worry about the human being, and that's kind of what we're doing here now."

Faber, who had only missed six games in his career to this point, will now begin what is expected to be a long recovery. Therefore, Wild fans shouldn't expect to see him this season. They will, however, be hoping that he's back to his best next season and beyond.
