Sometimes beloved TV personalities leave a show or a network and then return. It may seem like they cut ties permanently, but they are actually the ties that invisibly bind. Take Harry Smith, for example. The NBC stalwart is going to be at the Peacock network again, this time for a brand new role. At the age of 75, Smith is making a comeback to do something that is ideally suited to his gifts for storytelling and news gathering. Per People, Smith will be contributing features under the "Common Good" umbrella for NBC Nightly News, NBC News live events, and Today. He left the network more than two years ago after a dozen successful years there.

Smith Is Excited About This New Opportunity
Harry Smith is eager to get back in the national broadcasting saddle. Per the outlet, he shared this. "I am thrilled to have the opportunity to do what I have done for so long: tell America's story. I have long believed that there is more that unites us than divides us. It's in our bones. It's part of America's DNA."
According to People, "Smith officially makes his return on Monday, Sept. 28, at NBC News' live Common Ground event...." On tap for him is an interview with Kelly Hall-Tompkins, who is a noted musician and doctor.
He sure has the right credentials for this gig. Smith has spoken with a wide spectrum of celebs over the years. The A-listers whom he has sat down with include Madonna, Cher, and Julia Roberts, to cite a few.
He Left NBC in 2024 With Gratitude and Grace
At the time, Harry Smith said, "Every time I would come on this show, I was welcomed so generously. I've had just this unbelievable array of phenomenal experiences since coming to NBC, and so I'm really full of nothing but gratitude. Furthermore, Smith mentioned, "Every time I'd come on, everyone would drop their phones, pay attention to the story and then respond."
He also spent a quarter-century at CBS News, ending his stint there in 2011. A native of Lansing, Illinois, Smith has been married for 40 years to Andrea Joyce, a fellow broadcast professional.
