Sometimes in life we get lucky. At the time, we might not even realize how lucky we've been. That was certainly the case for a man who was sleeping by the roadside in Chaozhou, China, on September 7. The man, who slept near a beach, was awoken by the loud crashing sound of a truck colliding with a nearby billboard.
Following the crash, the billboard quickly collapsed, landing right next to the sleeping man. It was so close that the corner of the structure landed directly onto a pack of cigarettes he had placed on the floor next to him.

Fortunately, the man was unhurt. He literally escaped with his life, despite not being aware of what had unfolded around him. If we're being honest, though, he's probably going to look back on that moment and realize just how close the call was. If the billboard had landed on him, it would surely have caused significant damage.
Yet, despite the incident, the shoeless man was able to simply get up and walk away unharmed. We can all agree that was the best-case scenario.

When Fox News posted the footage of the billboard collapsing, social media users were quick to share their reactions.
"Tomorrow will be the most beautiful day of Raymond K. Hessel's life. His breakfast will taste better than any meal you and I have ever tasted,'" one user wrote in the comments section.
Another user joked that the man should start praying following his close encounter..."He needs to be prayerful from now onwards; death is currently knocking on his door. If not careful, he will likely meet his fate anytime soon."
Another user pointed out that the man coming away unharmed may have been due to divine intervention, rather than simple luck. "Inches from death and only a cigarette pack took the hit. That's not luck that's providence. A wake up call if there ever was one. Every breath is a gift. Maybe today is the day to change something."
Whether it was something from the beyond that saved the man, or just pure coincidence, we can all be happy that he's perfectly fine. However, he may avoid sleeping near billboards moving forward.
