Iconic Rock Guitarist Dead at 73, Had Been "Ill for Some Time"

The iconic rock guitarist was one of the founding members of one of the defining bands in the 70s. He had been "ill for some time".

Neil Henderson, one of the founding members of iconic rock band Bay City Rollers, has died. As reported by Ultimate Classic Rock, he was 73 years old.

The rock guitarist's death was confirmed by another band which he used to perform with, Middle of the Road. They

wrote on social media, "We are sorry to have to announce the death of Neil Henderson, our original lead guitarist, songwriter and friend."

They explained that Neil "had been ill for some time" and had been "fighting to recover from a stroke ".

"We wish to send our sincere condolences to Heather and Shona, his two daughters, and all his family and friends. His memory will live on with all who had the pleasure of sharing the stage with him as will his music," their post concluded.

Henderson's daughter Shona posted a touching tribute to her dad in the comments. "Thank you for your condolences to my sister and I," she wrote.

"Dad actually left Middle of the Road so he and I could gig together... Thanks to my dad my high school years literally rocked!"

Henderson was the original guitarist for the Bay City Rollers. However, he left before the band had major commercial success. His final musical project, according to his daughter, came in a self-recorded demo album. It consisted of covers as well as a self-written song.

Tributes Poured in for the Iconic Rock Guitarist

Tributes have poured in for the iconic rock guitarist. The Bay City Rollers guitarist who saw the band's commercial success, Stuart Woody Wood,

posted a tribute online.

"Just heard the very sad news about Neil Henderson, one of the original Bay City Rollers...though I never met him personally Alan spoke very highly of him. Sincere condolences to all his family and friends?".

People who knew him also posted their condolences on social media. One wrote, "I did photo shoots for [Middle of the Road]. He was a lovely guy and co-wrote and wrote some great songs for Middle of the Road. Quite a few of them were hits in Europe, on singles and albums."

"So sorry to hear this Sally. I knew he'd been ill for a while. Give my condolences to his family," another wrote.
