Rob Lowe recently admitted he was "happy" after Will Smith infamously slapped Chris Rock live on air during the Academy Awards in 2022.

The odd emotion stems from the former Brat Pack member's nearly equally infamous 1989 Oscars moment. It involved Lowe performing Creedence Clearwater Revival's "Proud Mary" at the star-studded ceremony.
Yeah, it doesn't sound so bad until a couple of other details are added: The classic rock tune was performed in a Copacabana-esque style, and Lowe's duet partner was Snow White.
"The worst opening ever," Lowe recently said on Andy Cohen Live on SiriusXM about his embarrassing duet alongside the beloved fairy-tale character.
Disney later objected to the unauthorized use of its Snow White character after the decidedly lame performance.

Perhaps understandably, the St. Elmo's Fire star still carries the scars from that Oscars moment to this day. That's why Will Smith's open palm going across Chris Rock's face at the 2022 Academy Awards lifted Lowe's spirits.
"When Will Smith slapped Chris Rock, I was the only person happy," Lowe admitted to Cohen about the slap heard around the world. "Because I was like, 'Oh, good. So now that's the worst moment in Oscar history.'"

However, the Parks and Recreation alum feels like his moment still trumps that of Smith and Rock.
"But it turns out not really. Turns out I still am dragged, dragged every year," Lowe insisted.
Lowe also seems to feel like his botched Oscars performance bleeds over into other awards shows.
"This year even, I guess some people didn't love some of the Emmys, and they were like, 'At least it wasn't Rob,'" Lowe claimed. "It's like, guys, there should be a statute of limitations."
However, Lowe claimed that at least one TV legend enjoyed his duet alongside Snow White: Lucille Ball.
"Lucy came up to me afterwards," Lowe recalled. "[She] said, 'Young man, I didn't know you were such a wonderful singer.'"
Hey, more than a few folks seem to agree with Lucy! In a YouTube post of Lowe's big Oscars moment, plenty of commenters showed the actor some love.
"If I was hosting the Oscars I'd make them redo this," one commenter joked.
"Little known fact: Rob was actually the seldom talked about 8th Dwarf, Dreamy," another fan joked.
"How is this a disaster on Lowe's part? It's bad writing and typical academy awards corniness," another defender of The Outsiders icon wrote.
