A former Powerball jackpot winner has allegedly used his lottery winnings as unlimited bail money to support his frequent trips behind bars.
Since winning $167 million in Powerball winnings, Kentucky's biggest jackpot ever, James Farthing has been on a crime spree.
Despite earning over $100 million in the blink of an eye, Farthing broke into a Lexington residence in March and stole thousands of dollars.
He was arrested for second-degree burglary and marijuana possession charges.
In July, the lottery winner was arrested for a fourth time this year for allegedly strangling a woman after a boating trip.
The alleged victim claimed that she and Farthing got into a verbal altercation after the boating trip. Farthing is accused of "put[ing] both his hands on her neck, which restricted her breathing." The incident occurred in Georgetown, a small town in Kentucky.
Farthing pleaded not guilty Tuesday to strangulation and assault charges. According to TMZ, his bond was set at $15,000. Farthing was also ordered to stay away from the woman and wear a monitoring device.
He faced charges of first-degree strangulation, domestic violence-related, and fourth-degree assault, domestic violence, causing minor injury.
Lottery Winner Adds to Lengthy Rap Sheet
The troublesome millionaire was cuffed once more on Sunday. This time around, Farthing was arrested on alcohol intoxication charges.
Officers responded to a caller who reported seeing a white Ford Mustang stopped in the middle of an intersection around 3 AM in Georgetown on Sunday, Lex18 reported.
The caller told 911 operators that the vehicle later drove into a Walmart parking lot and parked, the outlet reported.
When officers arrived at the store, Farthing was asleep in the car. Police had to knock on the window repeatedly to awaken him.
According to the arrest citation obtained by Lex18, the former Powerball winner showed signs of intoxication, including slurred speech, bloodshot eyes and smelling of alcohol and marijuana.
Farthing was booked into the Scott County Detention Center. He is slated to be arraigned on public intoxication charges on Tuesday.
