A man named Derek Spencer was allegedly a scary, one-man crime wave in Iowa Hill, California, over the weekend. Per The New York Post, Spencer, 44, was allegedly responsible for actions that put "[a] small California town...on lockdown after [he] allegedly rammed [a police vehicle] and shot at cops before taking off into the woods." He also allegedly took someone's life as well.

According to The New York Post, Derek Spencer "point[ed] a firearm at people Sunday." He also reportedly had a mid-morning run-in with deputies. Spencer then "rammed a patrol vehicle and fled the scene." He allegedly shot at police and a police helicopter, prompting the lockdown. Later on Sunday, per the Facebook account, a woman was found inside a house where Spencer was believed to have been. She was deceased. He is thought to have allegedly taken her life.
The Police Pursuit of This Suspect Was Reportedly Physically Treacherous
The lengthy Placer County Sheriff's Office Facebook post detailing the pursuit and takedown of Derek Spencer is titled "Murder Suspect Deceased Following Shootout." Spencer, 44, was hiding in thickly-forested woods. He was finally pinpointed with infrared technology from the California Highway Patrol aircraft.
Per the Facebook post, "Several teams then made their way through steep, difficult terrain in the dark. The approach took several hours." Spencer allegedly shot at law enforcement personnel and also set two fires. In an exchange of gunfire with police, he was reportedly shot and killed.
He had an especially wild month prior to what allegedly happened on Sunday. Derek Spencer was arrested on three separate occasions on September 3, 13, and 15. His alleged crimes during this period included felony vandalism, resisting arrest, burglary, stealing a car, and shooting at a moving vehicle.
