Who Is Helping Carrie Underwood With Her Rumored Rock Album?
The American Idol judge has reportedly been working on new music. Sources say that Axl Rose, the frontman for the legendary metal group Guns N' Roses, is mentoring her.
Underwood and Guns N' Roses have performed together over the years, with the latest surprise appearance taking place on Sep. 19 at Truist Park in Atlanta, Georgia. Underwood joined in a performance of "Sweet Child O' Mine" and "Paradise City." Rose also performed with Underwood at Stagecoach in 2022.
"I've gotten to sing with them, but I would love to record something with Guns N' Roses," Underwood said in 2025. "That would be really cool."
Underwood Is No Stranger to Rock Music
Of course, football fans know Underwood's rock side well. Her theme to NBC's Sunday Night Football is based on Joan Jett and the Blackhearts' "I Hate Myself for Loving You."
But earlier this month, the "Before He Cheats" singer stunned fans at the Velocity Festival in Dyersville, Iowa, when she performed some covers from nu-metal bands. First came "Shine," a cover of the 1993 Collective Soul hit. She then performed Papa Roach's "Scars."
Underwood then began head-banging as she performed Linkin Park's "One Step Closer." She ended her short alt-rock set with Limp Bizkit's "Break Stuff." She even donned a backward red cap in tribute to the band's divisive frontman, Fred Durst.
But Underwood kept the set family-friendly, leaving any of that "he said/she said bulls***" out of it. Before the show, she shared on Instagram that she flew in early to catch Shinedown at the festival, which inspired her "to try some new stuff."
Underwood also performed with Papa Roach in Las Vegas last year. The two also collaborated on "Leave the Light On," a song about suicide.
