Miley Praises Dolly's Authenticity As A Person
Parton's goddaughter, pop star Miley Cyrus, recently sat down for an interview with Apple Music's Zane Lowe. During the interview, Cyrus talked about how, to most people, Parton's legacy was being the diva country music star, with unmatched style. But Miley says that one thing that doesn't get talked about enough is Dolly's authenticity as a person.
"She's known for, I guess, the faux, the fake, the hair, the makeup, the show of it. But there's a part of her that's just what I think everyone gravitates toward. How real she is and how authentic she is," Cyrus said (via Page Six)
Parton passed away in August at 80 years old following a brief battle with cancer. Following her godmother's passing, Cyrus said one of the first things that came to mind was how Dolly would want her to respond in the moment. The Hannah Montana star said that, as she continues to process the grief of Dolly's loss, she is comforted knowing she now has an "angel" on her side. She revealed details about one of the last conversations that they shared.
"What I KNOW is Dolly would want me to feel it, write a song about it, and then continue and be strong. I have an angel by my side. I always have. One of our last conversations was about music and metamorphosis," she wrote in a touching social media tribute following her passing.
She also sent a consoling message to all of Dolly's grieving fans.
"I will always love her and want to make her proud. My heart breaks for the world, her family, and friends who will miss her deeply," Cyrus concluded her statement. "We're in this loss together, and we will see her in all of the most beautiful things.
