Missing Civil War Reenactor Found Wearing Uniform 6 Days Later

Method actors take note.

A Civil War reenactor can really flex about his dedication to his craft after he was found wearing his uniform nearly a week after going missing.

Last week, Washington's Yelm Police Department shared a photo of a rugged-looking man wearing a Civil War uniform and sporting a rifle. "This is an updated photo of missing Civil War Reenactor Thomas Goodwin, who was last seen between 8-9 pm on September 5th, wearing a Civil War reenactment uniform," the department wrote alongside the photo of the 54-year-old in its Sept. 10

post.

"With no sightings, searches are continuing. If seen, please call 911," the Yelm Police Department added.

"This disappearance poses a credible threat to their health and safety as determined by the investigating agency," the Washington State Patrol wrote on a missing person's poster a local Facebook group

shared.

"Mr. Goodwin is missing from the Yelm area and left his wallet and keys after being seen last night around 2100 hours," Thurston Co. Scanner, News, & Weather Blog added. "He was attending and camping at a Civil War reenactment event with a family member on George Road. [Goodwin] was last seen in the area feeling unwell and never returned to the tent. He does have some medical conditions."

Search for Missing Civil War Reenactor Reaches Happy Conclusion

However, good news came six days after the dedicated Civil War reenactor went missing.

The City of Yelm Police Department shared

an update, detailing that police were "dispatched to a location near George Road in connection with the missing Civil War Reenactor Thomas Goodwin."

"Mr. Goodwin has been located and is currently being evaluated," the department added.

Per local outlet KOIN, a motorcyclist heard Goodwin calling for help and alerted authorities. First responders discovered Goodwin still wearing his Civil War uniform. They rushed Goodwin to St. Peter Hospital in Olympia. 

"Mr. Goodwin's family and the Yelm Police Department are grateful to everyone who assisted in the search," police told PEOPLE. Police added that Goodwin "was dehydrated but in good spirits and otherwise healthy" and is back with his family.

Meanwhile, the comments under the Yelm Police Department's final update about Goodwin are filled with comments of joy and relief.

"From Massachusetts - tell Thomas that people across the country were praying and worried for him. So grateful he was found," one top comment read.
