University of Evansville Mourns Student Athlete
The University of Evansville shared the "heartbreaking news" of Scott's death on
Facebook Monday."A sophomore and member of the Purple Aces women's basketball program, Jordan was a beloved member of the University of Evansville community," the university said.
"Her loss is deeply felt by her teammates, coaches, classmates, friends, faculty, and all who had the privilege of knowing her."
Sgt. Jacobs of the Warrick County Sheriff's Office told WRTV 6 News that Scott was driving on State Road 62 around 12:42 AM EST when she crashed into a utility pole. Jacobs described the road as "very curvy."
A witness told police that they watched her vehicle leave the road on a sharp curve and strike a pole before coming to a rest on its side in a tree line, the outlet reported.
Jacobs confirmed that there was significant damage to the vehicle and that Scott died at the scene.
UE Head Coach Remembers Jordan Scott
"There is no simple way to put it. Our team and coaches are really struggling," Wierzba told the Courier and Press. "While this is a new team and we have only been together for a short time, these young women have spent countless hours together this summer and fall building something special. They have quickly become a family. Jordan was a meaningful part of the family. Her presence, personality, and spirit made an impact on all of us. Our hearts are broken for her family. Especially for Jayden. Jordan will always be a part of the Evansville Women's Basketball Program."
Scott, an Indiana native, blossomed into a highly touted prospect at Castle High School. The 5-foot-6 guard averaged double figures in her final three years with the Knights.
According to her UE player profile, Scott was a two-time All-SIAC first-team selection and a two-time All-State Honorable Mention pick. She was also a first-team All-Metro selection.
