Dramatic dashcam footage has captured the moment a school crossing guard stepped in front of a speeding car to protect a mother and her two children.

On the morning of August 26, Kae'la Leon Guerrero was walking with her 5-year-old daughter and 11-year-old son outside Pinecrest Academy St. Rose in Las Vegas.
The family was making its way across a school zone crosswalk when a car suddenly came speeding toward them.
Crossing guard Richard Jones quickly stepped in front of the approaching vehicle, which came to a stop just feet away from the family.
The terrifying close call was captured on camera.

Following the incident, Jones told FOX5 that he believed the car was traveling at around 35 mph in a 15 mph school zone.
If accurate, that would mean the driver was traveling at more than twice the posted speed limit.
"Honestly I just try to do the job the best way I can," Jones said.
Guerrero has also spoken out about the frightening encounter and how much worse the situation could have been.
"And from a distance, we saw a car coming, but not knowing that he was speeding towards us," the mother said. "He shielded us."
"If that cross guard didn't jump in front of that car, something bad would have definitely happened."
Mother Praises Crossing Guard After Close Call
Guerrero was holding the hand of her 5-year-old daughter at the time, while her 11-year-old son was walking just behind them.
The speeding car came screeching to a halt less than 10 feet away from the family.
Footage of the incident, recorded by Jake Garcia, later circulated on social media.
Garcia said he drives along the road every day while taking his son to another school. He also expressed his gratitude to Jones for putting himself in harm's way to protect the children.
"I don't know how many times I said thank you for what happened yesterday, but he's an amazing man. And my kids thank him every day actually," Guerrero added.
She said her children were left shaken by the frightening encounter and that she is continuing to comfort them in the aftermath.
The driver reportedly left the scene following the incident.
Guerrero now hopes the widely shared footage will serve as an important reminder for motorists to pay attention in school zones, put down their phones and obey posted speed limits.
