Country star Jamey Johnson and Toby Keith were more than just songwriters. According to Taste of Country Nights, they were also golfing buddies.
And one of the key parts of golf is the trash talking, right? (Have I been playing it wrong? Because it's hilarious to try and throw people off!)
In any case, whether it's key or not, Johnson says that Toby Keith was just that good at trash talking. He immediately brought Keith's name up when being asked about the best trash talker.
"Toby Keith. Bar none," he explained. Now that's confidence! He backed it up with a pretty haunting statement:
"He would say something that would stick with you, not just for that game, but for the rest of your golf career."
Strangely enough, though, when Johnson was asked if he recalled any lines, he couldn't bring one up on the spot. Whether that was just because he'd managed to bury the abuse somewhere deep in his mind, or whether he just plain didn't want to bring to light just the types of things Toby Keith would say at the course, we'll never know...

But their relationship was most well documented as being a songwriting one. Per Country Now, after Toby Keith tragically passed, Jamey Johnson recalled one song they never got to finish together.
"It wasn't too long before he passed," he recalled. "I called him up with an idea and sang it to him over the phone. He laughed his a** off, and before I knew it, we'd written a whole verse and chorus on this thing, just over the phone without even a guitar, just sitting there laughing, carrying on."
But, as fate would have it, that hilarious moment had to be cut short. "He was like, 'man, I've got to run. I got people here at the house. I'll see you."
And that was that - the song unfortunately never got the fleshing out and polishing it likely deserved. Maybe one day we'll hear it in all its glory, but, for now, it will stay unreleased.
