More details are slowly emerging about the frightening health scare that celebrity blogger Perez Hilton had earlier this month on Tuesday, August 4. He usually spotlights others, but this time, Hilton was unfortunately the focus himself. He was reportedly self-harming and livestreaming it. That caused worried viewers to summon urgent help for him at his Miami home. Since then, Perez Hilton has been hospitalized. His situation has been characterized as a "suicide attempt," per Page Six.

His brother-in-law, Tom, who is the husband of Hilton's sister, Barbara Lavandeira, opened up about the situation on August 24. That day, Tom was on The Perez Hilton Podcast with Chris Booker. He reportedly sad that Perez Hilton incurred broken bones at the time that he was allegedly hurting himself. "The cutting, a couple of falls that happened during this process," Tom explained.
The Cause of Hilton's Distress Is Unclear
He also revealed that "up until about 48 hours or so ago from this recording, [Hilton] was being treated for physical issues. "So, we are now just transitioning into the mental side of things," he shared. Tom added, "Although, of course, while he's in the hospital, while he's being treated for his physical ailments, psychiatrists come in and check in and see how he's doing and make sure he's not looking to harm himself."
What caused Perez Hilton's extreme emotional distress seems to be unclear at this time. "I don't know if it will ever be [known]," Tom conceded. He has evidently shied away from prodding his brother-in-law too hard about the events of that night. "I wanted him to really focus on his physical ailments ... actual recovery of the lacerations and the bones," Tom mentioned.
Family Members Quickly Left His Home When He Started Harming Himself
Per Page Six, "At the time, Hilton's sister, niece and his children fled his home...." They understandably must have been terribly alarmed and concerned by his behavior. Hilton's three youngsters, Mia, Mayte, and Mario, range in age from 8 to 13. He is permitted to have supervised visits with them. His mother has temporary custody of the children.
