Richard Lloyd, member of the band Television, has tragically been diagnosed with bile duct cancer. As reported by People, news of his diagnosis was shared in a fundraiser.
The fundraiser was started by Lloyd's longtime friend, Sean Seymour. He explained, "He has tumors in his liver, including one located dangerously close to a major blood vessel."
"Because of its location, doctors cannot safely operate to remove it at this time," he added. The musician was diagnosed with the "serious" form of bile duct cancer known as cholangiocarcinoma.
Seymour continued by explaining the serious nature of his cancer - including complications which have caused a lot of pain. "He has been in the ICU seven times," he explained, "dealing with serious complications". These included "sepsis twice", as well as "complications involving his liver and kidneys.
"Richard is currently unable to tour," he explained as the reason behind starting the fundraiser for the musician. "For a working musician, that's devastating - not only because performing is what he loves, but because touring is his primary source of income. Richard and his wife, Sheila, are now facing serious financial pressure."
"There have also been unresolved royalty issues going back roughly two years, creating another significant financial strain at an already incredibly difficult time. And, like most working musicians, Richard is being overwhelmed by crushing medical expenses and the ongoing costs of simply getting through each month while he is unable to work."

The Musician Also Shared a Statement About His Cancer
The musician also released a tearful statement about his condition. "I am usually a pretty upbeat person and I am taking this in stride, but it has become very difficult on our own and financially we are strapped. That's why I'm asking for your help."
He continued, "If you can see your way clear to make a donation please do that. Otherwise, please pass it around to your friends that might help and people that know me."
As of August 26, he has raised over $75,000 of the initial $80,000 target.
This is a truly tragic situation. We hope that he is able to recover from his cancer.
