Newlywed Couple Killed in Tragic Helicopter Crash While on Honeymoon

British newlyweds Alexander Cromie and Marie Ebert have been killed in a helicopter crash while celebrating their honeymoon in Greece.

A newlywed couple have tragically been killed in a helicopter crash while celebrating their honeymoon in Greece.

Alexander Cromie and Marie Ebert, both British citizens, died on Monday on the Greek island of Sifnos.

The private aircraft, reported to be a Bell 206 helicopter, crashed just meters from the landing pad, killing both Cromie and Ebert.

The helicopter's pilot, a Greek national, also died in the fatal crash.

Reports state that the couple were traveling by helicopter from the village of Markopoulo, near Athens, to Sifnos when the crash occurred.

Sifnos is a popular Greek holiday island known for attracting tourists from around the world.

"Our thoughts are with the families during this difficult time," a Foreign Office spokesperson said. "We are providing consular support and in contact with the Greek authorities."

Greece's aviation safety authority has launched an investigation to determine what caused the fatal crash.

Officials added that investigators were heading to the crash site on Tuesday to "gather evidence and speak to witnesses".

A senior police official said the helicopter crashed shortly before its scheduled landing time of 6:15 p.m. local time.

Greek Island Left Devastated by Fatal Crash

Sifnos' Deputy Mayor, Manolis Foundoulakis, arrived at the scene shortly after the tragedy.

He described the extent of the destruction, saying there was almost "nothing left" of the helicopter.

Meanwhile, Sifnos' Deputy Mayor for Tourism, Yiannis Rafeletos, said people across the island were "devastated" and "deeply shocked" by the crash.

He added that "so much happiness has turned into sorrow."

Rafeletos said authorities found two of the victims in the wreckage, while they discovered a third a short distance away.

Firefighters also rushed to the scene to tackle a blaze that broke out following the impact.

Cromie's employer, asset management firm Blackstone, paid tribute to the couple following news of their deaths.

"We are shocked by the tragic passing of three people including our colleague Alex Cromie and his wife Marie Ebert, who were celebrating their honeymoon," the company said in a statement.

"Alex was beloved by everyone who knew and worked with him at Blackstone, and our thoughts and prayers are with his loved ones."

Ebert worked as a senior specialist at consultancy firm Bain & Company.
