With technology continuing to evolve in unprecedented ways, the use of our cell phones is being implemented in ways that previously seemed impossible. One orchestra is keeping up with the times.

The Manchester Camerata Orchestra is pioneering a new way to create music. The orchestra recently partnered with United Kingdom-based retailer AO to create "the world's first dedicated mobile phone section in an orchestra."
Orchestra Implements Cell Phones Into Music Curation
Manchester Camerata conductor Tim Crooks told Kennedy News and Media that the cell phone symphony is "unlike anything we've ever performed"
He also added that the new technology makes sense. Given that people already use cell phones for several aspects of their daily lives.
"People use their mobile phones for almost every aspect of daily life. But creating orchestral music with them probably isn't the first thing that comes to mind," Crooks said to the outlet (via PEOPLE).
However, even though technology is part of an evolving world, the transition has not been seamless. Crooks says that there have been difficulties with using cell phones. Namely, not having as much "control" over the instrumentals.
"The difficult part, obviously, is when you've got a mobile phone handset, it doesn't give you the same level of control or musicality that you'd get out of an oboe or a flute," Crooks said.
The conductor also added that despite the difficulties, there is still a "place" for the use of the phones in the orchestra. He added that the implementation of "new things" is part of the "spirit of the orchestra"
"That's what made this project so enjoyable. It challenged the musicians in completely new ways. And demonstrates how versatile modern technology can be when creativity is involved," the conductor added. "We hope audiences are as entertained and surprised by the result as we were."
And industries are finding ways to implement new technologies to become faster and equally as efficient in a world that demands both daily. This isn't the first implementation of new technology in the music industry. The boom of artificial intelligence has also crept its way in. For example, last June, music producer Timbaland announced that he was introducing a new AI artist on his label.
In conclusion, technology is here to stay. And collectives like the Manchester Camerata Orchestra are making sure that they stay ahead of the curve.
