Two months after he was fired from 60 Minutes, Scott Pelley has received an award for his reporting.

What Award Did Scott Pelley Win?
It was announced yesterday, Aug. 13, that "The Bus on Route 62," a 60 Minutes story by Pelley about a Russian strike on a civilian bus in Ukraine that ran on the program in Nov. 2025, won the Excellence in Writing for this year's Edward R. Murrow Awards.
As reported by PEOPLE, Pelley's story is one of two 60 Minutes stories recognized by the Radio Television Digital News Association, the organization that awards the prestigious honor. The CBS newsmagazine also received the Feature Reporting award for the story "The Empty Rooms."
The award ceremony takes place on Oct. 12 at Gotham Hall in New York City. This is the seventh Edward R. Murrow Award for Pelley.
Why Was Pelley Fired from "60 Minutes"?
Back in June, CBS News fired Pelley after the veteran correspondent launched a tirade against editor-in-chief Bari Weiss and 60 Minutes' newly appointed executive producer Nick Bilton.
The moment came after reporters Cecilia Vega and Sharyn Alfonsi were also fired from the show. Vega also claimed several of her reports were tampered with by management. Anderson Cooper also announced in February that he was not renewing his contract with 60 Minutes so he could focus on his family.
"In recent months, my producing teams and I have experienced efforts to insert political bias into our stories," said Vega. "Reporting teams have held back on submitting story pitches about important news topics out of fear of the internal repercussions. Let's call this what it is: censorship, both imposed and self-driven. It is dangerous for the show and dangerous for democracy."
Pelley had worked for CBS News for nearly 40 years. His career with the network began in 1989. He then joined 60 Minutes as a correspondent in 2004. But the veteran journalist said his relationship with the network changed after Weiss took over in 2025.
Pelley said in an interview, "I am not emotional about this because I have lost this job. I've done it for a long time. I've had the greatest experiences. But the people I leave behind, treated in this way? That breaks my heart, and it's going to take me a long time to get over it."
