Put politics aside for just one second on this one.
Marco Rubio has opened up about the reasons he just doesn't like country music. And, as per Whiskey Riff, it's that same old reason everyone else just can't seem to hack it.
On an episode of Katie Miller's podcast, the Secretary of State got into music that he was enjoying at the moment. "I love a lot of electronic music," he said. "Because it fuses classical increasingly. It does country music. I like a lot of the remixes of, like, songs that you've heard over the radio."
He got into specifics, referencing "this EDM mix of Ring of Fire which is really good."
"I listen to a little bit of everything," he explained. Of course, there's a caveat... there's always a caveat. "Except for - I don't hate it, okay? I'm not against it. I'm not anti-country music, but that's not my thing."
Gesturing to his wife, he clarified, "She loves it." But, for him, he explained, "it's just very sad".
Rubio then got into what I'd have to say is one of the most hilarious tropes about country music I've ever heard. "Most of the songs are about somebody whose wife and dog left them."

Marco Rubio's wife was quick to course correct him in such an erroneous statement. Well, to be fair to him, he's not exactly wrong, but it pays to be a little more deeply grounded in a genre before making generalizations like that!
Jeanette had a pretty short and sweet response to him: "That's not true." And then, she name-dropped an icon... "You need to listen to Morgan Wallen and others, because that's not true!"
Ain't that the truth, Jeanette!
For Marco Rubio's sake, he says that he enjoys other genres, like rap. He expressed his appreciation for Tupac later on in the podcast. "I mean, just from an artistic standpoint, and obviously he would never live long enough to know what he would have turned into, but Tupac was very, very talented at that."
"I thought he was a very talented person primarily because I think he was a narrator, more than anything else, of a certain point of view and lifestyle and upbringing and worldview."
