A tractor trailer has smashed into an overpass, leaving one hospitalized. According to CBS News, the tragic incident happened on 12:20pm on New York's State Thruway in South Nyack.
The crash was captured via dashcam video of a truck. The video shows the truck clipping the top of the overpass, before tipping over and skidding on its side.
It then continued to slide across the pavement, leaving marks. The crash caused the right two lanes of the I-87 to temporarily close. However, the damage is not considered severe, and the highway will still be replaced "sometime in 2029".
New York State Troopers confirmed in a press release that the tractor trailer itself was a 2020 Mack make. They also revealed it "struck a 2025 Toyota sedan that was parked on the right shoulder off the roadway."
In a miraculous turn of events, the driver of the tractor trailer truck was uninjured despite the grisly crash. However, the driver of the Toyota was hospitalized. Authorities clarified that the driver of the Toyota is expected to survive.
The truck driver was later identified as Pernell Harris of York, South Carolina. The cause of the crash was identified as the tractor trailer having been over height. He was also ticketed for violating the maximum height of the thruway.

This Isn't the First Tractor Trailer Crash on the Thruway
This wasn't the first crash that's happened involving a tractor trailer on the Thruway.
Another crash happened in August 2023, where a Hollywood, Florida native had been transporting a steel tower. It smashed straight into the overpass, causing "significant structural damage", per Yahoo!News.
The tractor trailer in this instance was also over height regulations. However, this one was more severe - having been several feet over clearance. The driver was also issued several tickets for the crash.
Because of the more severe structural damage at the time, it took several days for the overpass bridge to re-open.
A Nyack resident was shocked to hear it had happened twice. "It's unbelievable, I can't believe this happened a second time," Patrick Kelly said.
